Care guide / Question worksheet

Get a coverage answer for your exact care.

Keep the product, the reason for care and the plan’s reply together. A general statement about peptides cannot answer your own coverage question.

If this is where you are

A care option says insurance may help. You want a clear answer before you agree to ongoing charges.

Ask about the exact use and product

Give your plan the product name and the reason the prescriber proposes it. Ask whether it would pay, what you would pay and what written approval is needed. Keep the answer with your quote.

Prior authorisation is the agreement a plan must give before it pays. A formulary is the plan’s medicine list. If those words appear in the reply, ask what each means for this product.

Medicare examples show why the use matters

Part D is Medicare’s benefit that helps pay for prescription medicines. These examples concern medicines for weight loss. They do not tell you whether Medicare will pay for endurance care.

The usual Medicare drug benefit, as of September 26, 2026, did not cover medicines used for weight loss.

Medicare / The usual benefit’s exclusions

As of September 26, 2026, some weight-loss medicines could qualify for Part D when prescribed for another medical reason, such as type 2 diabetes. Payment still depended on the plan’s medicine list and any approval it required before paying.

Medicare / Coverage can depend on the reason for treatment

The Medicare GLP-1 Bridge, as of September 26, 2026, was a short-term programme covering certain medicines for weight loss. Eligible people paid $50 for a month’s supply.

Medicare / The separate programme and its terms

Ask Medicare about the Bridge by name if your question concerns weight-loss medicine. Its price is not a price for endurance treatment.

The programme is outside the usual drug benefit. It starts on July 1, 2026, and ends on December 31, 2027.

Medicare / The programme’s stated dates

The Bridge required age 18 or older, plus specific weight and health conditions. It covered only listed medicines, as pills or particular injection devices.

Medicare / Check the age, health and medicine rules

High blood pressure or kidney disease could matter, but only at the levels set in the programme rules. Body weight also mattered. People with type 2 diabetes used the usual drug benefit instead of the Bridge.

Medicare / Why the full health rules need checking

Ask Medicare to check the full rules for you and the exact product, including its form: pill or shot. One health problem alone does not give you a coverage answer.

If you use a medical spending account

HSA is short for health savings account. The letters FSA stand for flexible spending arrangement. These accounts hold money set aside for medical costs.

As of September 26, 2026, US tax rules did not treat spending only to improve general health as medical care. Treatment for a disease a doctor had diagnosed was treated differently.

US tax agency / Medical care and general-health spending

Wanting more stamina does not answer that payment question. Explain whether the care is for a disease your doctor has diagnosed or only for general health. Use the contact details for your HSA or FSA account. Ask the organisation that runs it whether this expense can be paid from the account and which records it needs.

My plan’s answer

Record the reply, the person or department giving it and what still needs to happen.
