Care guide / Question worksheet

When to pause. When to get help.

Clear up product details before care. For severe allergy symptoms, read the urgent-help box.

If this is where you are

You have a reaction after taking a medicine, or you are preparing questions before care begins.

A severe allergic reaction can put a person’s life at risk.

Pause until the basic details make sense

If you are still deciding about care, use these checks before taking the next step. Write down what needs explaining.

The US agency that reviews medicines is the Food and Drug Administration, or FDA.

As of September 26, 2026, federal rules required an order from a licensed prescriber before a prescription medicine could be handed to a patient. A prescriber is a health professional who writes the medicine order.

US Code / The prescription requirement

As of September 26, 2026, the FDA identified claims that a made-to-order medicine had FDA approval as misleading.

A research-only label says the product is for research, not for people to take.

In advice checked on September 26, 2026, the FDA warned against weight-loss drugs labelled “not for human consumption” or “for research purposes”. They were being sold with instructions for people to use them.

FDA / Products with a research-only label

The FDA says those products have unknown quality and may harm people.

FDA / Why it warns about those products

As of September 26, 2026, warning letters from the FDA also said that a “for research use only” label did not excuse selling an unapproved peptide medicine for people to use.

FDA / Research labels on peptide products

Ask the prescriber and pharmacy if the exact product has approval from the FDA or is prepared to order under the compounding rules. Ask which records support that answer.

Ask how to store the medicine and who to contact

Different peptide medicines need different storage conditions. Follow the exact product’s label and the pharmacy’s instructions to learn its storage needs.

MedlinePlus / A storage example for a specific medicine

Poor compounding can leave a medicine with germs or other unwanted substances, the FDA warns. It can also leave an incorrect amount of the active ingredient—the part that makes the medicine work.

FDA / Problems caused by poor compounding

Patients can report medicine problems to MedWatch, the FDA’s reporting programme.

FDA / Reporting a medicine problem

Ask who to contact about a damaged package, unclear label or unexpected problem. Keep that person’s instructions with the medicine information, apart from these question notes.
